PKO-E在酸性条件下可以使溶液的黏度急剧增加，用于不同场合的酸化液增稠，与其它表面活性剂复配，具有很好的协同效应。本品是很好的石英砂浮选剂，也是最有效的沥青乳化剂，还可用于纸张防水剂，腐蚀抑制剂和石油制品添加剂，亦是生产制造胺盐、氧化胺、甜菜碱、季铵盐的中间体。可用于浴用制品、护发素、护肤剂、香波、化学合成、润滑切削油等。
